Chalmers Writing Centre is a part of the educational organization at Chalmers, specifically within the department of Communication and Learning in Science and the division for Language and Communication. At the Writing Centre, our goal is to support and improve your learning, focusing on writing and communication skills.
What We Focus On
Writing Skills
We help you become a confident and effective writer. Our sessions focus on:
-
- Starting your writing early and making the most of the writing process
- Understanding your audience and assignment context
- Using active reading as part of writing
- Revising your work for ideas, structure, format, and clarity
- Understanding genre expectations and communication strategies
Presentation Skills
We also assist with oral presentations. Like with writing, we focus on:
-
-
- Preparing with the audience in mind
- Using different tools and techniques for effective communication
- Clarifying what is expected from your presentation
-
What We Don’t Do
Of course, there are limits to what we can do. The sessions are fairly short, and we are not involved in your particular courses. Sometimes, that might mean that we will refer you back to your course teacher for further information and instruction. This also means that we do not partake in:
- Proofreading: We don’t proofread or ”fix” your text, but we’ll suggest ways to improve it yourself.
- Grading: We don’t assess or discuss grades. We’re here to help you strengthen your work through revision.
